Oh Tourist, you stole my heart at such a young age. I still consider “U”- if you haven’t listened then SMASH THIS BUTTON – to be one of the greatest albums to listen to from front to back in one sitting. Tourist’s builds are absolutely epic and at times capable of evoking the most intense of emotions. The singles that have followed since have fluctuated from good to quite good- none prompting the intensity of obsession as those first 10 tunes.
Whether this be a “I miss the old Kanye” situation or perhaps the sound has taken on a more pop/radio/playlist palatable form, I am supportive as ever and cannot wait for the album which is set to release on February 15th. The project “Everyday” will be paired with a cross-continental which includes a stop at the CRSSD mainstage- full set of dates available here.
Today’s release, Emily, is filled with nostalgic synths and samples of what feel like someone else’s hallucinations. One of the only other tracks which comes to mind that parallels this sensation is Télépopmusik’s classic Breathe. Even in the climaxing moments of both of these tracks, there is a certain weight to the production which prompts me to keep my eyes closed rather than move my feet. For someone who cannot stop dancing like myself a la restless leg syndrome, perhaps this tune is just what I needed on this winter Wednesday.
