This month I volunteered to write The K’s wellness recommendation as I have had countless conversations with friends seeking to improve their skincare routines over quarantine. While it is 2020, this is the first time I have heard my male counterparts excited at the prospect of face creams, lotions, and serums. As someone who still breaks out in their 20’s, I know how much your self-esteem can be shot down when you look in the mirror and there are marks of any sort on your face. No matter how much you learn to embrace your imperfections, it can still feel unfair that they are there.
Having tried a number of face masks and peels with my housemates, largely for humor’s sake whilst stoned, I could not have imagined finding one that actually makes a huge difference and still has the fun gimmicky effect when applied. When I came across Drunk Elephant’s branding, I was immediately into it and decided I would allow myself to buy one product as they seem a bit pricey. I decided on the Sukari Babyfacial as it only had to be applied once a week and the results were almost immediate. My first time trying it out, the natural cream stung pleasantly and then settled stickily before taking extensive rinsing to get off. I immediately felt like I had shed an invisible layer of skin. Upon looking at myself in the mirror, I was freaking glowing brighter than an influencer on Abbot Kinney. My wildest expectations were surpassed.
For a lot of guys, it can be hard to let yourself splurge on self-care, let alone talk about it. That is why I feel the need to admit that I look forward to Monday at 5 o’clock when I slap this mask on after a workout almost more than anything. Few things beat the feeling especially in 2020 when good feelings can be hard to chase down. I’m still on my first bottle 8 weeks later and don’t have a doubt in my mind that I will restock the second it runs out. Kudos to Drunk Elephant for a product that speaks for itself.
