The Shark & The Helicopter – Smokey Robotic

The Shark & The Helicopter – Smokey Robotic

“Superfuturistic, well what’s the definition
It’s when you push your dreams and make the best of living.”

…Well cheers to that.

Whether you buy into their intricate majestic culture or not, you have to agree that Smokey Robotic has a huge vision – and their music is unlike anything I’ve ever heard of before. Today’s release, The Shark & The Helicopter, features prime original production (thanks to Konrad & !llMind), utilizing diverse instrumentals and rhythms to cement each unique track concept. Yes, there are funky rhymes involving avocados and hot sauce, but the lyricism also goes much deeper than that. “Seer” has a deep, dark tone with which he spits his wisdom, and the soulful “Father Dude” laces his magic on each chorus or hook. It’s taken me some time to warm up to these guys, but I can finally say that I’m a believer in Smokey Robotic’s refreshing, eye-opening movement. This album features some far-fetched, indulgent tracks perfect for older Smokey fans, but also enough catchy, intriguing content to flag in new ones. Hey, even Lindsay Lohan is “tweeting” about Smokey…interesting.

This larger-than-life artistic vision is what so many current artists lack; I have a huge appreciation for those who incorporate it whole-heartedly, as demonstrated here. Below, I’ve featured my top 5 tracks which show great musical range.

Stretch your imagination and Kollect this ambitious work.

S.R. – Download

Gorgeous, and my favorite: “Death is easy, I’m scared of life’s razor jaws let’s compare our bites.”

Crack You in Half – Download

A story, told in an anthemic, finger-snapping fashion that reels you in. Father dude gives us a smooth chorus that lays perfectly over Seer’s “Crack You In Half” chants.

Bunny Suit – Download

Silly, but you’ll love the chorus. That soulful bounce is damn catchy.

World War Sideways 8 – Download

One of their more dramatic tracks: “Never hold no gun but I’ll eat you alive.
If you try and chop the hands of the children that reach for the sun, that reach for the sky.”

Fuck Hollywood – Download

A lot of truth to this one, conveying the need to “get the money then run away” before you become Hollywood prey. Father Dude’s chorus is the best part: “In the back of my mind, I’m losing my inspiration. Under hollywood signs I’m screaming for innovation.”[/free]
