Sheer Mag’s newest album "A Distant Call" is fast-paced, powerful, worthwhile, but more than a little painful. Politically- and emotionally-charged lyrics and singer Tina Halladay's shrieking voice demand attention. Easy listening it is not, but meaningful listening it is.

Viagra Boys don’t care about us, but we sure care about them. That’s how we like it. That’s how it should be done, with no regard for anyone but the music. Never mind the mayonnaise rock, we’re going to be alright. Rock and Roll is in good hands; we should enjoy our respite from the Motley Crues of the world.

Punk isn’t meant to hurt everyone, it’s to hurt someone. It’s meant to hurt someone who hurt you, who excluded you, who took something. It is a community that uses brutal and inaccessible music as a way to combat a collective culture that is brutal and inaccessible to them.
