Smokepurpp, the 21-year-old Florida rapper, has released a brief and somewhat experimental EP that serves as a precursor to Deadstar 2, the sequel to his successful 2017 mixtape. Although he has only released two significant projects, Smokepurpp has been quite successful in his young career. The manufactured hits and trendy collaborations that boosted his popularity are fading, and Purpp's latest work exposes his lack of experience and weak material.

He demonstrates his mastery with several solo tracks that have no need for any external talent; but when Gucci chooses to incorporate features, they are quite effective. Regardless of what you refer to him as—El Gato, Gucci Mane La Flare, Mr. Zone 6—there is no doubt that Gucci Mane has influence well beyond that of the ordinary.
