I don’t think I have ever posted anything from the breaks genre on the K but Featurecast has given me the perfect opportunity to do just that. These bootlegs come straight from Featurecast’s DJ sets, “party bombs” he calls them, and he just released them for free in order to promote his forthcoming album Run for Cover. They are high energy, high quality mixes showcasing old school vibes crossed with new school electro bounce that are perfect to kick off your summer, I’m feeling some windows down action with these tracks blaring in my future…

Finally! Yeasayer has been teasing us for weeks on their Twitter about new releases, and the fans wise enough to be on their mailing list received a juicy new single in their mailboxes yesterday. Biology people…ready to be stimulated? “Henrietta” is inspired by Henrietta Lacks, a 1950′s woman whose cells were cultured and are still used widely in medical research. Yeasayer’s Chris Keating goes on to explain that her cells “were somehow used in the polio vaccine, too, so basically this woman’s cells still exist. It’s an interesting story. So we turned it into a dubbed-out pseudo-science-fiction song.” Yeasayer has described their entire upcoming album as a sort of “a demented R&B record,” and say two main influences for the new record are Aaliyah and David Bowie. Leave it to Yeasayer to prompt me to use the words “biology,” “polio,” “Aaliyah,” and “David Bowie” in the same post. Enjoy!

Styles & Complete understands that the key to R&B dubstep remixes is simplicity. I’ve been slowly becoming a fan of Frank Ocean (I’m not the biggest R&B guy), and this smooth chilled-out dubstep remix is definitely helping that cause. Even all of my Frank Ocean fan boy friends (who hate dubstep) admitted that this song is good. Support Styles & Complete on facebook for making such a good remix.

Donald Glover just has to rub it in everyones face that he’s pretty much amazing at everything…We haven’t heard a lot of new Gambino since CAMP, but We Ain’t Them should make up for lost time. Although I respect both sides of this talented rapper, I really appreciate his serious side as opposed to his “asian girls everywhere, UCLA” side – A beautiful piano-driven beat with crisp vocals, this should definitely be added to your kollection…download above.

Well I got to admit that I’ve slacked in posting this gorgeous track by The Knocks. I’ve had the song in my library for about a week now, but in that time span it has received countless plays. One could argue that it’s the light and airy synths or the steady progression of the track or the vocals that make this song infectious, but in reality it is a culmination of all these aspects that allows this song to transcend your everyday listening experience. Heck, I just realized that I’ve been bouncing in my chair this entire time while writing and listening to the song. Perhaps it’s my subconscious yearning to take flight, but regardless I am restricted to listening to this track down on the ground. So support The Knocks by “buying” the track via their Soundcloud (buying in this case means “liking” their Facebook page for the free download), and see where the music takes you.

Brand new dope remix from the man R3hab himself. I love what this guy brings to the table – everything he touches is guaranteed to get bodies moving. I loved his collabs with 3Lau, and this remix is no exception. I’ve never seen R3hab live, but I’m looking forward to seeing him at Spring Awakening this summer. Download the track above.

Brenton Duvall has always had an amazing way of taking a unique song and giving it a spin that makes it even better than the original; His latest release of All We Got is no exception. The original track from The Knocks is from their EP titled Magic, but I don’t think they understand the meaning of magic until they hear this. That was cheesy, but it’s true people! The remix gives the song an enchanting feel with an easy flow that revamps the jumpy staccato and wompy-ness of the original. Plus, I thought I heard a seagull sound effect or two in there… way cool. This is the perfect song to listen to with your hand hanging out of the window in your car making that awkward wave motion that you see in the movies, which is probably not the intent of this track, but it still works. The production shows an obvious attention to detail that makes this work of art so wonderful to listen to, and it is a no-brainer if this isn’t added to your kollection right now!

Sid Sriram has been on the down low lately in the music game, besides his feature on The Dean’s List hit Youth. His soulful voice gives this Weeknd-esque track and enchanting feel to caress your eardrums on top of some light piano keys and synths. Sonny Shotz’ feature is short and sweet, adding the perfect touch of sensual hip hop into the mix. Although this isn’t for download, definitely give this one a listen!

Dubstep music videos are a challenge for sure, but Delta Heavy shows that with a little time and effort you can make a dope video. Using all stop-motion, the video accentuates the song well and makes for an enjoyable video (the hungry hungry hippos part is my favorite). This might be the easiest song you’ll listen to for the rest of the year. It might also turn into your favorite morning musical accompaniment. Emma Louise is a sheer, whimsical delight and pleasure to hear, as she pours out all sorts of wonderfulness on her stunning single, “Boy”. Her graceful tone is without a single flaw, and the intricate details in this instrumental are just lovely. This won’t be the last time we’ll allow this vocal to caress us – this will be a big year for Ms. Louise.
