Cherry Glazerr: The Feminist-Forward Psychedelic Rock You NEED

Cherry Glazerr is a feminist-forward psychedelic rock trio that is spearheaded by 21-year-old Clementine Creevy and their video for Daddi has me convinced that they’re brilliant. Equally brilliant is the video’s director, Danny Cole, who also happens to be the creative director for PORTUGAL. THE MAN.

The word Daddi (more traditionally spelled Daddy or in some contexts Zaddy) makes me uncomfortable to begin with and I think that’s a good thing. When it comes to the intersection of music and politics debate, I think back to my “Media of the 1960’s” seminars in college and let out a big “HELL yeah they should intersect” followed by a “Make content that’s going to make people freak out or at the very least discuss pressing topics.” Sure enough, Clementine’s lyrics are both powerful and catchy: you can hardly make out the annunciation of “who should I f*ck, daddi?”… but it is there… and really works.

As the song builds, it become increasingly unclear which direction it is headed in. Eventually, with a sudden wailing on the guitar, the track turns into psychedillic-rock gold: chills + headbang potential. Enjoy and be sure to check and see if they’re touring their Stuffed & Read album near you in 2019 below:
