Uh Oh – Audiodax

We posted the original Uh Oh way back in 2010, but Audiodax has recently remastered this awesome track for their recent mixtape, Pop Rocks. I’m really feeling the remake on this – they’ve cleaned up the song, changed the overall tone, and built a much more professional-sounding composition. Big ups to Audiodax who continue to push themselves, even if it means taking a new approach to an already-amazing song. Download this one for free and enjoy!

Stewed In Sicily (Bonobo Remix) – Sonny Shotz

Yesterday, Sonny Shotz of The Dean’s List showed a deeper side of his music by releasing a Bonobo Remix entitled Stewed in Sicily. Although it is odd hearing Sonny spit over such a slow, mellow beat, I think that it really blends well. I also always have a lot of respect for artists that step out of their comfort zones to try a new type of song like this.

I am glad we get some more Sonny music, to tide us over until Generation X comes out! This is the kind of song that I would love to see a music video for, just to give it more depth and emotion than it already has.

Enjoy this mellowed out Sonny track on your boring Thursday afternoon!

Heard Us Walking on a Dream (DJMAKJ Bootleg) – Empire of the Sun v. Peace Treaty

“Walking on a Dream” serves as an optimistic anthem for many, remixed countless times and even inspired Wiz Khalifa to create a little “thrill” of his own…but this time, we hear something completely different.

California native DJMAKJ produces a lot of solid work, however his bootlegs especially stand out among the crowd – earning him a spot on our main site. His latest creation gives Empire of the Sun’s older hit the electro treatment with the help of Peace Treaty‘s “Heard Of Us”. The two pieces meld perfectly, creating an intense club-ready vibe likely to please both indie and house fans. With firm support from the likes of Steve Aoki, Tiesto, Afrojack, Fedde Le Grand and Autoerotique, this won’t be the last you’ll be hearing from MAK. The track will officially be released through Steve Aoki’s label, Dim Mak Records, on August 1st. Kollect for free while you can, and be sure to support DJMAKJ on Facebook!

Moonlight Sonata – Beethoven (Sound Remedy Remix)

Sound Remedy can do no wrong. This new remix has blown me away, and increased my respect for Sound Remedy’s creative process more so than any other track he’s ever released. To take a classic song, like Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven, and turn it into such a dark and dirty electro remix that can still retain the original feel of the piece, is quite an accomplishment. At six minutes long, this piece is progressive and constantly evolving, creating an enriching and interesting listening experience for any music fan.

I’m not a huge fan of when people mess with classical music. I think it takes away from the original and transforms it into something it was never meant to be.

I see where you’re coming from. For me, it’s all about the interpretation and the skill with which the remix was made. In this case, I think it stands lengths against many other classical remakes.

True, if you look at this song from a production and quality standpoint, it’s definitely one of the best remakes that I’ve heard. Sound Remedy does try and capture the feeling that the original masterpiece creates while adding in his own style. He does a decent job, but I still feel that the original piece will be leaps and bounds better than any remake. I think all artists understand that risk when undertaking the task of remixing a classical masterpiece like this one, which may be why there aren’t many remixes (good remixes) of these songs.

Wow this song is awesome. I respect Brandon’s opinion but I love when classical music is remade. When done right, I think it makes the song more relatable to its audience. It gives current listeners a chance to share the same enjoyment people of its time had. Kind of like how a Shakespeare play can be really boring if it is preformed today the same way it was hundreds of years ago (It’s irrelevant and hard to relate to). But when the same play is preformed using todays slang and style of clothing it becomes entertaining and it’s able to give the message Shakespeare intended. And for that reason I think this song kicks a lot of ass! That being said, I do have to say there is still something about an untouched classic… Both have there place in my headphones! :)

Colours (Stars) (Xaphoon Jones Remix) – Skizzy Mars

Skizzy Mars is no stranger to The Kollection. His track “Douchebag” was the one that really showed the world what he had to offer. He comes back with Colours (Stars), a track in collaboration with Grouplove and produced by Xaphoon Jones that is nothing short of awesome. Skizzy Mars’ flow is almost addicting, leaving me hanging on every word. Kollect this track for free and enjoy!

The beat is annoyingly lacking….I was waiting for a dope drop. They could’ve done a lot more with this :(

I don’t really like this song but for some reason I keep listening to it?

The Party (Chi Duly Remix) – The Weeknd Ft. Silver Medallion

We haven’t featured any of 21-year-old Canadian R&B artist Abel Tesfaye’s music, also known as the mystery man behind The Weeknd. He makes some incredibly smooth slow jams that even make people who think slow jams are weird want to bump them as loudly as possible. Florida producer, Chi Duly, created a great upbeat alternative to the slow original (including a verse from Silver Medallion), making this track much more likely to actually start a party while retaining its allure. I absolutely love how he chops up the opening instrumental, and Silver Medallion’s tone is smooth enough to be alongside The Weeknd. Kollect below!

I also suggest becoming familiar with The Weeknd, because the man is here to stay. Grab the free debut album that started all the buzz on his Facebook.
