Nima Skeemz, the producer that helped create favorites “2020″ and “Stage Dive”, crafts another crispy production for my favorite Northwest rapper (Macklemore aside), Sol. “Be Good or Be Careful” slightly lacks in that top-notch Sol lyricism that we’ve grown to love, but still serves as a genuine, simply produced “farewell” letter before the man ventures off into a 9-month traveling journey. No worries, more music from Sol and his team coming shortly on a new EP… stay tuned!

Nothing quite makes my day like some Asher Roth. With every new release he’s shown his maturity as an artist. Outside is just feel-good piece with slowed up lines, a beautiful instrumental, and cool sample on the hook. Asher fan or not, take a listen.

Dillon Cooper really hits the spot with this track. The first few lines threw me off, but once he gets on his rhythm, Dillon takes this track to a whole new level. He’s got meaning, flow, and style. The video is simple and elegant, the words are powerful. I’ve got a feeling we’re going to see big things from Dillon Cooper, keep an eye out.

This is some heart-wrenching hip-hop I’m bringing to you today, even thought it’s Friday. But it’s damn good. Seattle hip-hop artist Neema, whom I have never heard of before, comes out with a bang with a track about a breakup filled with passion and anger. With assisting vocals from Eighty4 Fly and Wingo (of Jagged Edge), this track is filled with a ton of talent that captures your attention with every line. Produced by Keyboard Kid, the backdrop for this track is the perfect setup for melancholy and enraged delivery from Neema. This is definitely a track that will put Neema on my radar for a while, which is a good thing because his upcoming LP The Cigar Room, is coming out May 29th.

Sid Sriram has been on the down low lately in the music game, besides his feature on The Dean’s List hit Youth. His soulful voice gives this Weeknd-esque track and enchanting feel to caress your eardrums on top of some light piano keys and synths. Sonny Shotz’ feature is short and sweet, adding the perfect touch of sensual hip hop into the mix. Although this isn’t for download, definitely give this one a listen!

Dylan Owen, one of the great storytellers of his rapping generation, has released his video for “In the Corner” from the recent successful K.Y.F.C. mixtape. Like the piano-driven track, this video keeps it simple with its visualizations but paints a clear picture of love and loss. Those high-pitched vocals on the chorus add a chilling factor, but we more importantly can’t ignore Owen’s incredible, perfectly-enunciated lyrical delivery that’s stolen attention since day one. Miss Banks is back with a brand new track which features everything you expect from the sassy rapper. Rapid-fire delivery paired with a few insults over a beat produced by Hudson Mowhawke and Nick Hook make for an awesome track you can jam to all summer. Plenty of bass and some steel drums provide a tropical feel, yet it still feels like a hard-hitting rap track that will stir the rap community. The attitude-infused rap diva, famous for her debut hit “212,” is expected to release her mixtape Fantastic at some point this summer, and “Jumanji” is a good indicator that there will be plenty of shit talking that will cause a few fights.. I can feel it.

Easy Does It doesn’t necessarily pump out an impressive amount of tracks, but I’ve been pleased with what they’ve released so far. My friend, and EDI vocalist Jacob, sent over their latest track/video a while back, and should definitely have you smiling. The lyrics are key here, placing emphasis on the more important things in life, no matter how minuscule they may seem on the surface. Enjoy their easy-breezy hiphop-rock vibes and most importantly, Kollect on!

Today we bring you the video to one of frat rap’s latest songs. Huey Mack, Mike Stud, and Scolla come together on a track that describes the Y.O.L.O lifestyle that embodies what frat rap is all about: Getting drunk, dancing with girls, and making questionable decisions. Paired with an Erin McCarley sample, this song is an interesting fusion between light-hearted and rage-tastic, an interesting combination that takes a little getting used to. Scolla’s verse is the part of the song that I enjoyed the most, but Mike and Huey still spit their flow just as well as every other song. The video opens up with a funny bit of Huey and Mike Stud switching identities, the rest of the video including clips from a live performance, Huey Mack sleeping, Mike Stud eating a salad, and a cute wink from Huey Mack around the 3:30 mark (ladies!). Wow, Matisyahu has really surprised me with this redone Sunshine released yesterday. The acoustic version is a simple, beautiful piece of work, but the rework gives the song a whole new energy. New instrumentals, a new style, faster paced – the new Sunshine is something completely different. The new version is available for free for a limited time on Matisyahu’s website.
