Super Mash Bros dropped off their newest project, Mile(y) High Club, yesterday and it’s sure to liven up your weekends. These guys are relative mashup veterans, and this new project highlights a bunch of new samples as well as some older classics. Not every track on here really impressed me, so I’ve picked out my favorites and highlighted them individually above – if you want to listen to the rest, download the whole tape below.

Echo Boom – Cris Cab [Mixtape]

Echo Boom – Cris Cab [Mixtape]

VN:F [1.9.9_1125]
Rating: 4.5/5 (35 votes cast)

Here we go, the sophomore release from the still-teenaged Cris Cab. His sound is so mature on this effort, while his heartfelt lyrics are wise but still youthful. Echo Boom features some big names, including his mentor Pharrell Williams (N.E.R.D.), Daytona, Mavado, and raspy O.A.R. frontman Marc Roberge. Making all the right connections and moves, Cab is breaking into the industry and making a crispy impression.

The title track of the album is not the most commercial of the bunch, but it’s simple descending chord progression and Pharrell’s genuine verse [which tells of how the pair artistically/professionally merged] make it a fitting album-opener. “What We Can’t Do” is a stand-up anthem for the ambitious youth, featuring a hiphop-inspired snare beat with Cab’s signature Reggae sound. “Going Home” has a more sentimental, contemplative sound courtesy of its subject matter. The contemporary production is excellent, and the guest appearance from one of my favorites (O.A.R.) finishes the track off perfectly. The last two key tracks are ones we’ve posted before, attached for convenience. This won’t be the last you hear from this supremely-talented artist.

Keep Your Friends Close – Dylan Owen

Keep Your Friends Close – Dylan Owen

Rating: 4.5/5 (54 votes cast)

Dylan Owen dropped his latest tape, Keep Your Friends Close, today for free, a gift for his fans to kick off the year. Dylan has such a unique style, much different than most artists we post on the site. I enjoy his work though, his creative instrumentals, and the way he’s not afraid to be passionate with his vocals. I don’t think Dylan has a huge pop appeal, which is such a refreshing way to make music, and it allows him to break free of the mold to create something more creative and original. I’ve picked out a few of my favorites, but the whole tape is worth a listen – let me know what you think! Don’t forget to support Dylan Owen on Facebook!

Reincarnation – Jetpack Jones

Reincarnation – Jetpack Jones

Rating: 3.6/5 (21 votes cast)

Jetpack Jones offers up his latest mixtape, Reincarnation, for our listening pleasure. Jetpack has a very unique approach to rap; his music is always positive, and very imaginative. Last week we gave you Drift Away to get you through your Thursday night and Friday, but this week you get the whole tape! There’s something called transport reading, well this is transport music. It was hard to pick my top three favorites because they were all so unique and marvelous, but if I had to choose: Faded, Jetpack Movement, and Patience. These three tracks embody the man’s message.

Jetpack Jones dropped this off for free, so to help repay him and like his fan page. Listen to my three favorite tracks, or Kollect the mixtape in its entirety.

The World According to Ballz(Mixtape) – Mike Ballz

The World According to Ballz(Mixtape) – Mike Ballz

VN:F [1.9.9_1125]
Rating: 4.1/5 (28 votes cast)

Let me start this off by saying that this was the first time I’ve listened to an ENTIRE mixtape in one sitting, excluding anything by Taylor Swift. Mike Ballz has left me speechless. I’ve been following his progress on this tape for a while now. When I say that it’s a concept piece, I don’t say that lightly. Mike is telling a story throughout this entire work. The story begins on the first track, and doesn’t end till the last one. You’ve got your chill tracks, party tracks, and even hangover tracks. Mike produced every beat on this track, mixed, mastered, all done by him. I’ll shut up and let you all listen to this masterpiece. Like the man on facebook to show your appreciation for this piece of beauty. Take a listen to some of my favorite tracks, and Kollect the mixtape below.

Fragments EP – Milkman

Fragments EP – Milkman

VN:F [1.9.9_1125]
Rating: 3.9/5 (35 votes cast)

As promised a year ago, Gregg Luskin has dove into the world of original production – something that’s absolutely necessary to gain respect in an overly-saturated music world. Here is one track granted exclusively to Kollectors, off the just-released Fragments EP. I chose “Revelry” simply because I found it to be the most melodic, dare-I-say-it…’sassy’… track on the EP. It’s fluid, but those pounding horns were unexpected. The EP is short and sweet, and I hope we can hear more like “Revelry” from this upcoming artist.

For just $1.29, you can grab all four tracks on the EP off the official Milkman site.

Mitch-Mash – Indie Treats & Gangster Beats

Mitch-Mash – Indie Treats & Gangster Beats

Rating: 3.9/5 (47 votes cast)

Man has this been a long time in the making. Mitch-Mash has been working on this EP for the past 6 months and the anticipation has certainly been building. In short, Mitch-Mash has been someone that really got me first interested in mashups when I first heard his “Level Up/Might Light You Better” track. After that, I couldn’t get enough of his unique sound. Finally, Indie Treats & Gangster Beats demonstrates the culmination of his hard work into making something that I think Kollectors will truly appreciate. The entire EP has a great flow to it that covers a wide musical range. Below are 3 of the 8 tracks from the EP but all are definitely worth taking a listen to. The EP folder includes the 8 tracks, a continuous mp3 of the entire EP, and a personal note from Mitch-Mash himself.

So show Mitch some love over on his Facebook page and Kollect on!
