American Terrorist III – Lupe Fiasco

This one is a few days old, but I never got a chance to share it here on The Kollection. Lupe is one of those artists I’ve been listening to for a few years now, so it’s always a surprise when he drops something new. American Terrorist III is as provocative as the title implies, telling the story of a homegrown terrorist and his mental change. Thought-provoking, indeed. The focus in this one is the lyrics, but man, the instrumental does a perfect job of creating a creepy, dark, and emotional piece. Take a listen and grab this one for free.

I know what you guys mean – that’s why I was refreshed to see that brief change-up in this one. Too brief? Probably. Thanks for the feedback!

In My Dreams – Cris Cab

This is a brand new track from Cris Cab, the first release off his upcoming project set to drop in January. Beautiful, laid back, and relaxing – just my style. Cris’s vocals are so good, and his style just flows through with passion and elegance. This is a must-listen – grab it for free and support Cris Cab on Facebook.

Choices ft. Action Bronson – Asher Roth

Here’s the latest leak from Asher Roth, featuring Action Bronson, off his upcoming album Pabst and Jazz. Asher opens the track, and damn, he’s blown me away again. This is the Roth style and sound I’ve loved for years and it’s so addicting to play. Action’s section is decent, but Asher is the clear standout on this one. Looking forward to P&J, but until then, download for free!

      Breathe – Skrillex

Whoa, whoa, Brian. What’re you doing. Skrillex, on the main Kollection? Yeah, I know, but bear with me. My relationship with Skrillex is interesting. I’m not really a huge fan of his music, but I’ve been to his shows more than any other artist (three at my last count). His live sets are pretty amazing, despite him not actually doing much on stage. The energy is enormous, and he really knows how to bring a crowd together.

This track, Breathe, however, is so much different than what we’re used to hearing from Sonny. It’s laid back, not dirty, not grimy. A lot more melody in this one, some smoother sounds. It’s still got that Skrillex feel – there’s no denying that – but man, I think he’s on to something with this style. Take a listen and let me know what you think.

                            27 Club – XV

I love myself some new Vizzy! After the music video release of U.F.C., I’ve been listening nonstop. In addition to his new track featured on the K yesterday, this is a very different beat style- one that I believe is much better. 27 Club refers to the group of rock and roll artists that all died in their prime at age, you guessed it, 27. XV’s flow over this sick drum-filled beat could be one of my new favorites. What do y’all think?

                                    Let’s Go – Outasight

In spirit of the Holidays, Outasight just unleashed this freebie to the fans – boasting a harder sound than we’re used to, which pleasantly turns into a catchy, energetic Outasight anthem. I was apprehensive at first, but I’m glad this rising artist is expanding his range and letting all avenues of creativity loose. With the success of the Pepsi-endorsed [and very N.Y.E. appropriate] “Tonight is the Night”, I have high hopes for Richard Andrew’s album, coming to you in early 2012.
