Best of 2012 (thus far) – Milkman Megamix

Milkman dropped off this new Best of 2012 megamix, featuring 31 of the hottest songs this year. I’m not on board with a few of the selections, but for an hour-long mix I was comfortable with what Milkman had to offer and the overall quality of the blend. Oh yeah, and it’s available for free.

Dance Floor Filth 2 – 3LAU

Sweat, sex, rage. That’s 3LAU’s official tagline for his latest release, Dance Floor Filth 2. This tape contains six previously released tracks, two re-edits, and four brand new songs from the mashup master’s library. Best of all? The tape is free when you like 3LAU on Facebook. This release also marks the end of 3LAU’s mashup/bootleg career as he moves forward with original productions (progressive house, he tells me!). I can’t wait to hear what’s cooking. Listen to all 12 tracks for free and grab the download here.

H8 (3LAU Bootleg)

3LAU is gearing up for the release of Dance Floor Filth 2, dropping tomorrow. This free track off the tape, H8 is a great taste of what is coming your way. I’ve been lucky enough to listen through DFF2 and some of the new tracks are just wonderful! I’ll be watching 3LAU very closely as he begins the next stage of his music career. Until then…

Steve Angello, AN21 and Max Vangeli – H8rs (Original Mix)
James Egbert – Legion (Original Mix)
Zedd – Slam The Door (Original Mix)
Rihanna – Where Have you Been

Let’s Go – Calvin Harris Ft Ne-Yo [The Disco Fries Bootleg]

So I’ve been on a huge Disco Fries kick, especially after their epic Avicii “Silhouettes” bootleg and it has only been compounded with their second installment of their LIFTOFF! mix series titled LIFTOFF! 2. As a thank you for the rabid nature in which Disco Fries fans have downloaded and supported LIFTOFF! 2, The Disco Fries have released the first bootleg found in the mix. The track that got the Disco Fries treatment was Calvin Harris’ “Let’s Go” that featured Ne-Yo.

With so many electro artist gravitating towards more mainstream artists, The Disco Fries breathe a more aggressive sound to the original by fusing in aspects of Nicky Romero’s “Toulouse”, Beltek’s “Party Voice”, and Mord Fustang’s “Super Fever”. The result is a heavier bass drop, raunchier synths, and more importantly a track worth of The Disco Fries name. So grab this free download courtesy of The Disco Fries above.

Light Me Up [Mixtape] – Basic Physics

Well it seemed inevitable, but looks like mashup heavyweight Basic Physics is going to make the switch to orginal mixes and productions. However before he makes a complete switch, BP graces us with a 30+ minute continuous mixtape consisting of 5 unreleased tracks and plenty of electro mash fire that would play perfectly for your summer rager. With samples ranging from Madeon and Martin Solveig, to Calvin Harris and Skrillex, to Above & Beyond and Zedd, Basic Physics throws some electronic bangers into the mix that play perfectly under the Top 40 vocal samples. So while BP gets ready for original tracks, make sure you play this mix out for the rest of the summer and enjoy the sun while jamming out to top quality mashups from Basic Physics. Cop the download here.

Heisenberg – DJ BAHLER

Perfect. Season 5 of Breaking Bad drops in one week – if you don’t know, now ya heard. DJ BAHLER has brought a mashup tribute to this incredible show featuring the show’s instrumental sprinkled with vocals from Wayne, Drake and Santigold. I’m not a huge fan of the vocal choice, but I’ve got to hand it to BAHLER for putting the Breaking Bad theme to good use. Take a listen and download for free.

Mashup Monday No. 51

Well it’s official. I’m 100% exhausted from this past weekend’s Spring Awakening Music Festival over in Chicago. Insane weekend for sure, but I’m going to finish up with a new Mashup Monday post consisting of 6 songs. With tracks by Mashup Germany, Gramatik, LeeDM101, Dotcom, DJ Ego, and Constantinos Saradis, Mashup Monday No. 51 is a nice collection of some chiller tracks along with some festival/higher energy tracks. Perhaps my personal favorite is LeeDM101′s “Let Go of the World” because it just really seems to hit home with the raw nature of the instrumental and vocals. So check out the 6 tracks above, and grab them all at once below. And be on the lookout for my interview with Krewella dropping tomorrow in celebration of Krewella’s Play Hard EP release that you can buy here!!!

XOXO [The Glitch Mob x The Weeknd] – DJ Bahler & Frail Limb Purity (Mixtape)

DJ Bahler and Frail Limb Purity have created a project that is beyond mashups, beyond simple transitions, beyond anything I’ve heard this year. Their collaborative project entitled XOXO [The Glitch Mob x The Weeknd] is aesthetically stunning, audibly refreshing, and above all, it’s musical art – and I’m talking about Beethoven-talented art. However, if you’ve taken the time to listen to DJ Bahler’s and Frail Limb Purities single releases then you know that XOXO is the definition of their mashup style.

Mainly utilizing the unique sounds of The Glitch Mob, or solo tracks from individual Glitch Mob members, and pairing them with the insatiable vocals of The Weeknd, Bahler and FLP have successfully infused two vastly different sounds and created unrivaled harmony. Perhaps the closest complete project that I can compare it to is Terry Urban’s Born Ready to Die from earlier this year. And while Terry’s project is more vocal (in the sense that there is more singing from Notorious B.IG. in the entire project), Bahler and FLP subtly use the power of The Weeknd masterfully. I’m not sure what other accolades and superlatives I can use to describe this project, but don’t sleep on this project.

Even though Bahler and FLP may not be as well known as other big-name mashers, their talent/skill is certainly on par and, at times, unrivaled. With a personal shout-out from The Glitch Mob themselves (see here), Kollecting XOXO [The Glitch Mob x The Weeknd] is certainly advised.

Beautiful Like Nobody Else – Nammo and DiBella

Well my summer has officially started. Having finished the LSAT on Monday, I can finally assuage the stress that has accumulated for the duration of my studying. And it just so happened that one of the first songs I heard after the LSAT was this summer banger by Nammo and DiBella titled “Beautiful Like Nobody Else”. With Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman’s “Roll the Dice” providing the stunning instrumental and main vocal support provided by One Direction and Chris Brown, this collaborative mashup demonstrates that beauty isn’t just a visual aspect. Perhaps my favorite aspect of the song is the subtle use of 30 Seconds to Mars’ “Kings and Queens” around the 2:15 and 3:45 mark that adds personality, and completes the entire package. Kollect above, watch the amazing visuals courtesy of Vienna below, and keep enjoying your summer music!

Summer Weekends – Basic Physics Bootleg

Here’s a new something-something from our good friend Alex Syse, better known as Basic Physics. I was honestly a bit put off at the beginning when I heard Hangover fade in, but after the intro passed through, the track really turned around. At around 1:15, with a little faux-drop, the song comes alive with beautiful melodies and Ne-Yo’s (slightly overused) vocals. Everything pulls together at 2:00 into a summer-ready, catchy, melodic mashup. Downloads are free, don’t miss this one!

Samples
1. Zedd – Spectrum
2. Ne-Yo – Give Me Everything Tonight
3. Taio Cruz – Hangover
4. Eva Simons – Take Over Control
5. Juventa – Like These Eyes (Juventa Remix)
