Norwegian Recycling dropped his latest mashup last night, another moving tribute to the late Whitney Houston. Whitney does a beautiful job of mixing several Whitney vocal samples on top of pop hits from Florence and the Machine, Bruno Mars, and the instrumental from Adele’s Set Fire to the Rain. I’ve always appreciated Norwegian Recycling’s touch in the mashup game – he really does a great job staying away from the trends and producing more unique tracks. This one is no different – watch the official mashup video below and download for free!

Sample List:

Adele – Fire To The Rain
Whitney Houston – How Will I Know
Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)
Whitney Houston – So Emotional
Florence And The Machine – You Got The Love
Bruno Mars – Grenade

Mashup Monday No. 43

Mashup Monday No. 43

Rating: 4.2/5 (14 votes cast)

Time to start off the week with an ample size of mashups ranging from some hip-hop to heavy EDM-style to more chill vibed mash. Frankly, I had some trouble cutting down the list (started with like 12 tracks) and all I managed to do was get it down to 7. Starting us off is a new artist (to me) that goes by the name of Silent Murda. Silent takes a variety of hip hop samples and combines The Weeknd’s passionate and soulful vocals with the lyrical gangster flow of Biggie, Tupac, Big L, and Wale. Props to my boy Zach over at FMI for showing me this track.

The second track I want to highlight is that of TeeTs. I’ve become accustomed to his fast-paced, heavy EDM style mashes but he shows us diversity by giving something a little bit more chill. Still interesting, thanks to the instrumentals provided by Ronald Jenkees (I highly recommend checking out the original video here) mashed with some R&B vocals of Craig David and Ne-Yo. Personally, I loved Craig David’s vocals on top of the instrumental because it just captures your attention and adds some emotional connection. Other tracks include an older mash that uses some Deadmau5, Kanye, and others; a high-octane/fast-paced mash of Doug Bogan that will surely get your pulse racing; a track from Ridgewood Social Club’s new album – check it out here; and more.

Kap Slap & 3LAU – Spring Break & Electro Beach Mixes

Kap Slap & 3LAU – Spring Break & Electro Beach Mixes

So it’s Friday which means that classes are winding down, and all thoughts are starting to gear towards weekend plans. However, luckier Kollectors are probably starting to plan for their Spring Break vacation which means having to figure out music playlists as well. With two of the biggest names, Kap Slap and 3LAU, in the mashup game going to Electric Island and Electric Beach respectively, they made sure to leave those who aren’t as fortunate to attend the festivals with essential mixes for Spring Break, and the weekend, to hold us over.

Kap’s hour long Spring Break Mix is a combination of his own mashups and bootlegs culminating in absolute insanity. I’ve played this many a times while at the gym since he released it and I can’t even begin to express how amped up I get. Imagine this mix playing on the beach with drinks flowing, tanning oil slathered bodies everywhere, girls in scantily clad bikinis, well you get the picture – everything leads to a great time. Fortunately, the same can be said about 3LAU’s Electro Beach mix. Even being only 30 minutes long, Justin doesn’t play around and gets the party/rave vibe going instantaneously. This is purely a mix combining mixes and remixes from various EDM artists, so perhaps this is a glimpse of what we can expect to see/hear from Justin at Puerto Vallarta. Regardless, download these two top-notch mixes and finalize those Spring Break (and weekend) plans courtesy of The Kollection.

Mashup Monday No. 42

Mashup Monday No. 42

It’s Monday, which means another great selection of tracks for this week’s segment of Mashup Monday. To start, a recent DJ Trademark release, See The Lights, blending electronic beats with vocals from Brittany and Enrique. Trademark has impressed me with his flawless transitions from sample to sample, creating his trademark (no pun intended) party style.

I’m getting tired of Avicii’s Levels being mashed, no matter how great it is; you’ll have to forgive me for this one. It’s Flo Rida’s sampling of Levels paired with Sum 41 vocals – a creative combination, I must admit. I’ve never heard of Bogoss, but I’ll keep my eye out for any future mashes/bootlegs.

Next, DJ 21azy delivers a mashup that is filled with a dope beat, ill vocal samples – what I’ve come to expect from 21azy.

Finally, this Mashup Monday post wouldn’t be complete without mention of the tragic passing of Whitney Houston. Her voice is one of the rare few that should be considered timeless, and one that transcends all genres. For that reason, Joshu Ra’s mash of Whitney and Rihanna stood out to me. A classic track of Whitney paired with a Rihanna’s We Found Love that is gaining in popularity. Whitney Houston may be gone, but her voice will continue to grace the ears of many for years to come.

Move Up (The Hood Internet Mashup) – Wiz Khalifa vs. Phantogram

Move Up (The Hood Internet Mashup) – Wiz Khalifa vs. Phantogram

Whoa, Whoa. This just made me super happy. As documented by two “Top 10 of 2011″ posts [check out Leanne's and yours truly], Phantogram’s magnetic jam “Don’t Move” won us over and is still one of my favorite tracks on earth [big statement]. The Hood Internet has done it again with another one of their classic “blend” tracks by getting good ole’ Wiz in on the action, and I can already tell this feel-good gem is going to become addictive. Nothing is forced, these two tracks just work together.

The stripped-down beat + Wiz section at 2:00 is one of those unique touches that make me really appreciate this. How could you not Kollect this up for your weekend?

Lift Off [Album] – Basic Physics

Lift Off [Album] – Basic Physics

Rating: 4.5/5 (31 votes cast)

My good friend Basic Physics has finally released his album Lift Off, and the album certainly achieves it’s title name. By that I mean, that this album is a party ready, EDM infused, Top 40 filled album that will lift you off your ass and get you moving. Basic had given me the opportunity to preview the album while he was busy making this monster, and getting to listen to the final album last night, I felt that Basic had struck gold. With a total of 15 tracks (10 previously released and 5 unreleased tracks) excluding the intro, this album has some of BP’s classics while also introducing us to some new bangers. Above are 2 unreleased and 3 released track with the first 2 transitioning together, and the last 3 transitioning together.

The album, as a whole, is a continuous non-stop album (save for when “Filth In Paris” changes to “Fade Into Blackout”) that means you just press play on your computer/iPod/mp3 player and you’re set to go. You won’t find much variety in mash style, so if you’re looking for some laid-back and chill mashups then this album is lacking with that. However, if you’re looking for over an hour of epic partying…well sit down, buckle up, and get ready to have your party lift off and go from ‘great’ to ‘what the hell did we do last night’ (as you survey the damage from a night filled with partying). So Kollect the album below, and send me the bill if the damages are too drastic*. Don’t forget to show Basic Physics some love over on his Facebook and follow him on Twitter.

Nightchain – The Hood Internet

Nightchain – The Hood Internet

VN:F [1.9.9_1125]
Rating: 4.1/5 (23 votes cast)

The Hood Internet is one of those pioneer mashup groups that have seen the genre as a whole explode in popularity. Have they sat back on their laurels and just cruised? Not even close. While the last couple tracks of theirs I have been slightly disappointed with, they reestablish their dominance with “Nightchain”. Fusing Kavinsky’s “Nightcall” with Wale’s “Chain Music” created an intense 1v1 mash. I’ve heard Gambino, Biggie, and others with Kavinsky’s track and I got to say that I like Wale’s vocals the best. There’s something about his flow and tone that seems to fit the vibe of the “Nightcall” instrumental perfectly. So for you late night Kollectors, make sure to add this to your Kollection.
