Blue Jeans – Lana Del Rey (Mateo Cover Video)

Well, that’s a lot of falsetto. We usually don’t post much of the R&B genre here on the K, but new Interscope artist, Mateo, needs to be recognized for his Lana Del Rey cover. Considering the relevancy of her as an artist, and the over-remixed nature of her track, the fact that this stands out to me speaks volumes. Mateo’s tone is so flawless; effortless in his delivery and timeless in his appeal. I like the subtle production changes, and the shots of this simplistic video. Enjoy.

Holocene – Terence Ryan (Bon Iver Remake)

Terence Ryan, an artist I’ve been particularly impressed with, did a beautiful job with this ground-up remake of the chilling Bon Iver original. With no use of samples, this is a purely organic instrumentation “recreation”, with the addition of Ryan’s lightly sung vocal. I love the extra percussion, which gives the piece an entirely new sense of urgency; his artistic choice to omit any rapping segment is tasteful, however it does leave me curious. Grab this download, and enjoy this rapping ‘intermission’ from a talented young artist who clearly knows how to recreate.

Touch My Body (Cyril Hahn Remix) – Mariah Carey

Oh my, this is beautiful. An unknown artist to myself and most of the world, Cyril Hahn, creates a layered listening experience from Miss Mariah’s older hit. I was never the biggest fan of the original, but this is a completely different story. Hahn really only borrows the lyrics and a partial melody, easing into the piece quietly. Sultry male vocals? Eerie, spaced-out production? Yeah, we can vibe to that. Grab it for free here on the K!

Countdown (Beyonce Cover) – The Elwins & Luke Lalone (of Born Ruffians)

Beyonce, my boo. I love yoo. You might remember Sondre Lerche’s sassy acoustic version of Beyonce’s “Countdown” from last year, but I think this one is even better. The Elwins borrow Luke Lalone from Born Ruffians to produce a jangly, crisp recording over at the Verge Music Lab in Toronto, resulting in one of my favorite covers of the year so far. Have fun with this one! (The track itself starts around 1:46).

Video Games – Collin McLoughlin (Lana Del Rey Cover Video)

Collin McLoughlin lost me for a while there, but his latest incredibly organic covers have restored my faith in this naturally talented artist. Recorded, produced, mixed and sung all by Collin, this LDR cover incorporates a little drum-tap and sung “oohs” that wade in the background, capping off this self-arranged, beautifully pure work. Unwind to this, and vote to help Collin win a chance to perform at the Billboard Music Awards!

I don’t think think he’s released an Mp3 (yet), but you can catch up with everything he does musically via his Facebook page (linked above!) Thanks!

Kids (MGMT Cover) – Lady Danville

Wowza, this is a great little cover from LA trio, Lady Danville, a new indie artist to the K. After first listening this morning, I’ve had this year-old cover in rotation constantly – a fair indication of its repeat-appeal. Steady percussion and beautiful, smooth harmonies create an entirely new organic feel to the former electronic orignal. Now I’m just wondering… How have I not heard this before?! Check it out below, and support their new Operating EP on iTunes.
