Amazing – Jay Fresh Video

Love the song, I love the video – Amazing by Jay Fresh is a winner in my books. The video is super laid back, dreamy, and takes me back to younger days. The story is great, and Jay brings an awesome delivery to this Pretty Lights instrumental. Take a peek and download for free if you missed this before!

Good Morning (The Kickdrums Remix) – Kanye West Ft. Big Sean

Yes this is a throwback, but it’s a damn good one that we neglected on the K. Nearly two years ago, Kanye dropped “Good Morning” – a legit track with a minimalist beat. Here, The Kickdrums insert a Grateful Dead sample for the instrumental. Old-school ‘Ye fans might highly disagree, but I prefer this instrumental over the original. There’s something about that adventurous, light melody and drum/bass rock combo that revitalizes the track – whether you’re just waking up to start your morning, or barely making it through the afternoon, this track begs to be replayed. Kollect on!

      Ray Charles – Chiddy Bang

It’s been a while since Chiddy Bang has hit the blog scene. Ever since Peanut Butter & Swelly, we’ve been anxiously awaiting their newest work. Well, here it is! Xaphoon Jones absolutely kills this beat, while Chiddy the rap-master lays down some sick verses. The song was inspired by Chiddy seeing his under-the-influence brother passed out with his sunglasses on looking like Ray Charles, and he decided to make a song out of it. Brilliant. This track is going to be featured on their upcoming album Breakfast, out February 28th.

      Can’t Wait – OnCue

I don’t even know where to start. Can’t Wait. I first heard OnCue in 2010, and it took me a while to get used to the kid. I remember Cueyfornication, I remember Cuey Sings the Blues, Leftovers, and now this. Every track Cuey has dropped in the past year has just been a stepping stone, each one getting better. Production, vocals, lyrics, hooks, instrumentals – it’s all there. There are not many artists out there that can claim this kind of growth, development, and passion for what they do.

But I’m rambling. Here it is – OnCue’s most recent tape, Can’t Wait. I’ve had a good chance to listen through this tape, and man, it really floored me. Cuey’s music is unique, and beautiful, and passionate. He knows what he wants to say, and he knows how to say it. Can’t Wait is a culmination of Cuey’s emotions, talents, and accomplishments, packaged into one of the best mixtapes I’ve heard since starting The Kollection. There ya go Geoff, you’re doing it man. This tape is amazing, and it was great to meet you. I’m always looking forward to more OnCue, but this new tape is just what I’ve been waiting for. Give this kid a listen, like him on Facebook, and support this music.

            Headlights – OnCue + Video

To hold Kollectors over until we do a full-length Can’t Wait feature, let me just give my two cents on one of the shorter tracks on the tape, left untouched by producer CJ Luzi and instead handled by Chanes. “Headlights” has a sort of ambient, quiet opening that booms into a full-blown brief Cuey statement about staying on track during his thrilling journey ahead. The entire project is fantastic; stay tuned for our input here on the K.

The hazy visuals in this new video [directed by Adam Ross] match the album cover, and perfectly capture the essence of the track with superimposition techniques. Now go download the rest of the mixtape here.

            Town – Dumbfoundead

This track just crossed my radar tonight, despite being out for a couple of weeks now, and I’m in love. This beat is my style – an acoustic feel with a crisp beat and a low profile. The lyrics shine, Dumbfoundead’s vocals sound great on this track, and the production by Duke Westlake is excellent. If you’re not familiar with Dumbfoundead – get familiar. Take a listen, download for free, enjoy!
