Cosmic Love (Seven Lions Remix) – Florence + The Machine

I recently had the utmost pleasure of witnessing the beauty and grace that is Florence Welch at last weekend’s Coachella Music Festival. She sounds impeccable live, and the harp-plucking instrumentation on the angelic “Cosmic Love” is unlike anything else. Thanks to Seven Lions, these gorgeous elements of the track are kept in tact, with tasteful, melodic dubstep production added into the mix. The work becomes progressively heavier by the mid-section, but never overwhelms or challenges the original beauty of the track. Grab the free download through the Seven Lions FB Bandpage.

I’ve also included “Isis”, a track off the upcoming Polarize EP – on sale over at Beatport April 23rd.

Take Shape – The Dean’s List Video

The Dean’s List continue their Generation X momentum by dropping this unexpected video, which you can catch the guys sporting wigs and sipping away to their growing successes. “Take Shape” is one of my most played tracks off the album, so I’m happy to see this – a little more variation in the scenes would be appreciated, but regardless this was a great, funky track. Peek below!

Sandstorm (Candyland’s OG Remix) – Darude

Take yourself back to 1999. Electro/House and Dub production duo Candyland‘s very appropriately-titled “OG” remix is gritty, and instantly will catapult you back a decade to when the original trance hit “Sandstorm” was released. Here at 70 BPM, this rework channels a completely different swagged-out nature that sounds unlike any other electronic music I’ve come across – and it’s damn good. The introduction and mid-section have you fooled, until you’re hit hard with a shocking slowed-tempo. After a listen, you’ll probably crave this version and ditch the out-dated original.

Grab the artist-provided download here, since they’ve maxed out on SoundCloud.

Touch My Body (Cyril Hahn Remix) – Mariah Carey

Oh my, this is beautiful. An unknown artist to myself and most of the world, Cyril Hahn, creates a layered listening experience from Miss Mariah’s older hit. I was never the biggest fan of the original, but this is a completely different story. Hahn really only borrows the lyrics and a partial melody, easing into the piece quietly. Sultry male vocals? Eerie, spaced-out production? Yeah, we can vibe to that. Grab it for free here on the K!

No Faith in Brooklyn Video + All American EP – Hoodie Allen

Thousands of Hoodie “mob” members have been counting down to this release, and we at the Kollection have, too. As you wake this morning, you’ll notice that the man is currently holding the #1 album spot on iTunes overall. That is incredible; a testament to the power of true fans and the payoff of an extremely dedicated independent artist. Our chosen Long Islander, Steven Markowitz’ (aka Hoodie) first retail album, All American caters to ears that fein for a tastefully mainstream sound, and should satisfy hip-pop cravings in all of their originally-produced glory (thanks RJF!) and witty banter. In all seriousness, the rapper’s made a bold shift with this 8-track retail debut – perfectly wrapping up poignant messages in his own catchy package.

        Key Tracks:
“Lucky Man” kicks things off in a fun way (I’m 5’9? but I’m feelin’ real big) as he lures us into his “All American” state of mind – “No Interruption” has a huge presence and has been stuck in my head since its release (not complaining) – As a college Senior, the highly relatable “Eighteen Cool” is definitely going to become a new staple track, regardless of its slight “Disney” tinge – “No Faith in Brooklyn” is definitely the second stand out track under “No Interruption”, with a thoughtful chorus from Jhameel and Hoodie’s speedier flow (which he implements wisely) – “Ain’t Gotta Work” lays atop a simple piano riff but strongly finishes the project (gotta love the Blink 183 reference). But really, thank goodness Hoodie quit his day job.

                One More Time – YONAS

YONAS has impressed me from the beginning – the Bronx native’s “One More Time” (which borrows from the classic feel-good 2002 Daft Punk tune) is no different. The production is switched up, creating a more hip-hop friendly instrumental with a kick – while YONAS goes in to create an energetic remix. There will be plenty of original production from the man, coming up on his Translation tape. Until then, Kollect on!
