I’m so happy right now to be introducing a kickass new company to everyone here on The Kollection. I’ve been talking with Atone Clothing Ltd, an apparel company out of Colorado Spring, CO, for a few weeks now, and we’ve finally worked out a really awesome advertising deal that you guys will love. See that new banner of there in the right sidebar? Yeah, that’s them, Atone Clothing.
This is The Kollection’s first sponsor, and I couldn’t be happier with the company that we are collaborating with. Atone Clothing is a startup business, just like The Kollection, and man these guys are doing some amazing work with their designs and clothing, and every new product they release continues to amaze me.
For this introduction post, I wanted to welcome Sam Vinson, the founder, to have a brief Q&A session with The Kollection so you guys can find out what Atone is all about. Take a look:
- How did Atone Clothing Ltd. get started? What was your motivation to start a clothing company?
In the early days Atone was just a creative outlet; a means by which I could get the stencils and other street-art based material out into the world in a legal way. After a little while of peddling shirts made out of my basement to friends and acquaintances it began to become self-sustaining and since then I’ve just let it grow. The way I see it Atone is an organism rather than organization, my job is just to feed it and watch it grow.
- What is your main focus when you design/print new apparel?
Really just to make people think and to make something that identifies with the buyer on a different level, to create something that really plays into that persons daily life or ideology whether it be anything from music, art, war or flat out hometown pride.
- Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
I always have to keep myself grounded in my graffiti roots, because street art is more pure than producing apparel. What I mean is in my experience in graffiti whether it be getting my name up or making a stencil that survives getting buffed out, its on a personal level in that what you choose to put down is a part of you, not driven by profit or personal fame, recognition or gain. It’s hard at times to keep this ideology when in the business world, but I always have to stay connected to my roots of inky aerosol fingertips.
- What does Atone mean to you?
Atone to me is a word that can fall under a lot of meanings. It relates to the political or social undertone in some parts of the collection as far as drawing attention to ways where we as a whole can correct ourselves, but also the personal implication of the word. In that sense, Atone is an action you take after you make a self-reevaluation by just looking at what’s around you in a different way, even if its just a piece of your inner kid.
- Any words for The Kollection readers?
Keep listening! Music defines us, and I couldn’t ask for a better kollection of the new voices and beats in the music scene than what they have going.
Stay fresh!
Samuel J. Vinson, Founder
