One Of Those Nights – Juicy J feat. The Weeknd

It’s not everyday we decide to post Juicy J, he of Three 6 Mafia fame, but it’s almost impossible to not post him after he teamed up with Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd for “One Of Those Nights”. Having signed to Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang Records, Juicy builds up some hype for his upcoming (date unannounced however) solo album Stay Trippy with this dope collaboration. “One Of Those Nights” opens with The Weeknd serenading us in his typical seductive fashion before giving way to Juicy J around the 1:44 mark. Needless to say, this track is a far cry from Juicy’s “Bandz A Make Her Dance” and much more enjoyable in my opinion. Instead of relying on an annoying and incessant hook a la “Bandz A Make Her Dance”, Juicy flexes his flow while working well with the uptempo beat. Save this track for a late night study session, and grab the download here.

Enemy – The Weeknd

The Weeknd dropped this beautiful piece yesterday, a little bonus as he gears up for the release of Trilogy in November. The track is slow and passionate, with that thudding base and light piano that seem to perfectly accentuate The Weeknd’s vocals. Peep this below and keep an eye out for Trilogy in the next few weeks.

Rolling Stone – The Weeknd

I rarely listen to R&B, but mon dieu! The Weeknd is the realist dude in the game (besides Frank Ocean). If you’ve been sleeping under a rock Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, is a Canadien R&B singer, who has been featured on tracks with Drizzy and Wiz, and in my opinion has the best voice ever. Sampling the guitar riff from Andre Nickatina’s Ayo For Yayo, Abel creates a masterpiece of a song reminiscing of his girls and his favorite recreational activities. This song isn’t new by any means, but the official music video just dropped and is definitely a jam to chill, relax, or get weird to.

XOXO [The Glitch Mob x The Weeknd] – DJ Bahler & Frail Limb Purity (Mixtape)

DJ Bahler and Frail Limb Purity have created a project that is beyond mashups, beyond simple transitions, beyond anything I’ve heard this year. Their collaborative project entitled XOXO [The Glitch Mob x The Weeknd] is aesthetically stunning, audibly refreshing, and above all, it’s musical art – and I’m talking about Beethoven-talented art. However, if you’ve taken the time to listen to DJ Bahler’s and Frail Limb Purities single releases then you know that XOXO is the definition of their mashup style.

Mainly utilizing the unique sounds of The Glitch Mob, or solo tracks from individual Glitch Mob members, and pairing them with the insatiable vocals of The Weeknd, Bahler and FLP have successfully infused two vastly different sounds and created unrivaled harmony. Perhaps the closest complete project that I can compare it to is Terry Urban’s Born Ready to Die from earlier this year. And while Terry’s project is more vocal (in the sense that there is more singing from Notorious B.IG. in the entire project), Bahler and FLP subtly use the power of The Weeknd masterfully. I’m not sure what other accolades and superlatives I can use to describe this project, but don’t sleep on this project.

Even though Bahler and FLP may not be as well known as other big-name mashers, their talent/skill is certainly on par and, at times, unrivaled. With a personal shout-out from The Glitch Mob themselves (see here), Kollecting XOXO [The Glitch Mob x The Weeknd] is certainly advised.

Crew Love (Star Slinger’s Jersey Refix) – Drake & The Weeknd

Here we have a very chilled-out remix of Drake’s hit song Crew Love through Take Care with The Weeknd. Star Slinger does a great job keeping the original vibe of Drake’s version while adding just enough of his own production of synths and drums, adding a new taste on an already great song. Support the UK artist on facebook and download above.

Hello would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re using? I’m
going to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a hard time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique.

P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!

Balloons of Haus – Chi Duly

Brooklyn-based producer, Chi Duly, reworks Abel Tesfaye’s (more affectionately known as The Weeknd) first mixtape, House of Balloons, lifting it up to a DJ set-appropriate level. These are not electronic bangers, but rather sensual mid-tempo creations that take all the sensuality that is The Weeknd to a dimly-lit, clubroom level. The remix project has already been praised by The Weeknd himself via Twitter – a huge compliment to the tasteful production talents of Duly.

“He’s talking about what every other artist you hear in the club is talking about except he’s artistic, emotionally believable. The Weeknd’s subject matter is already club friendly. The pace however was only bedroom friendly. My project still retains that laid back, mellow uptempo R&B vibe but picks up on a harder electro vibe with the Dirty Diana remix.” – Chi Duly

Wicked Games (The Weeknd Cover) – Coeur de Pirate

Beatrice Martin puts out some pretty dope covers, but her piano-driven take on The Weeknd’s “Wicked Games” must be in your Indie Kollection. Coeur de Pirate (translation: Pirate Heart) is basically flawless in her delivery, singing with an overall delicate vibe but conveying the intensity in lyrics like “Bring your love, baby, I could bring my shame / Bring the drugs, baby, I could bring my pain / I got my heart right here / I got my scars right here.” The Weeknd’s original is hard to beat, but you have to give Beatrice props on this one. Check out the video she released along with the recording as well; it’s homemade from old/new footage she shot, which I actually really appreciate. Kollect on!

Eyes (Mistermike remix) – Kaskade

Kaskade’s “Fire & Ice” album without a doubt can be said was a huge success who absolutely tore up the charts in 2011. On today’s post I present you with a remix from California Dj named MisterMike. Not my favorite track on Kaskade’s album, but “Eyes” sweet melody and vocals certainly was one of my favorites on there. Mistermike’s beats and synths give this track a total different more upbeat feel. Now to be honest I have never heard of Mistermike but I like his work. So to introduce you some more to this newly discovered artist I will throw in a second track which is a bit more chill than Mistermike’s remix of “Eyes.” The Weeknd, who has been a significant amount of hype recently is a Canadian artist originating from Ethiopian decent. If you enjoy this guy’s voice as much as I do, I recommend checking him out as an artist he has a really unique voice in my opinion. Enjoy!

Same Old Song (Paper Diamond Remix) – The Weeknd

I know we’ve got some Weeknd fans here at The K, and I admit I’m having to grow on Abel, but it’s remixes like this that make me truly appreciate the vocals. Paper Diamonds does a great job building a laid back, bass-heavy dubstep-inspired remix. Beautiful, without a doubt, and worth a download. Take a listen and let me know what you think!

XO EP (The Weeknd vs. The Glitch Mob) – DJ Bahler

Here’s an interesting little mashup EP for the new years – the soft and elegant vocals of The Weeknd combined with The Glitch Mob. An interesting combination, no doubt, but it works incredibly well. DJ Bahler did a great job of mixing the two styles together to create a cohesive 3-track EP. Beautiful, simple, and clean, these mashups are a great addition to your Kollection. Listen to each track individually or grab the whole EP below!

Sad that some people can’t just listen to music, as music.

this isnt dubstep, is glitch hop. hence “the glitch mob” it has a lot more intention and beauty
