Feel Tall – OnCue Video

I’ve been eager to see the visuals for my favorite OnCue track, “Free Tall”, and it was well worth the wait. Stop motion illustration and truthful, penetrating lines directed towards all the people that never believed in him, Cuey delivers his message powerfully. Literally… each word that comes out of Cuey’s mouth makes a bold impression. You might just get a laugh out of it, too.

If you didn’t grab this amazing track when we posted earlier, Kollect it above now.

Feel Tall – OnCue

4 minutes of greatness. This should get you excited for Can’t Wait.

OnCue is a kid with a lot of heart, not afraid to wear it on his sleeve and make it sound powerful and eloquent. Definitely do not press play on any of his tracks if you’re looking for “musical fluff”. “Feel Tall” speaks volumes – honestly portraying that triumphant feeling of being worthy and self-aware. The production from CJ Luzi is beautiful, sprinkling multiple sounds throughout to support the deep lyrical with just enough lasting punch. Kollect this catchy first single (and one of Cuey’s best tracks yet) below!

I have this on repeat. Gotta love Cuey. He almost reminds me of a white Cudi. He has a distinct voice, and in the chorus, his singing voice isn’t bad. I definitely cannot wait for Can’t Wait.

Anything Real – Sonny Shotz & OnCue

This new Sonny and OnCue track dropped yesterday, Anything Real. I’m so excited to see these two amazing artists link up yet again to produce a laid-back, straight from the heart kind of song. Sonny and OnCue both have a very distinct voice that I’ve grown to love, and I’m excited to get them together on the same track. Take a listen, download for free, as always, and kollect on!

Sonny Shotz has a raw voice that i love. I can’t find anymore of his songs. Him and The Deans List are all that. I like them more then any big rapper. Keep working Sonny and The Deans List

It Usually Goes – OnCue (Video)

I posted this great OnCue track earlier in the month – and I’m happy to present you with the newest official OnCue video! As usual, it’s professional, powerful and poignant (sorry for the alliteration there). His lyricism is so on point; OnCue shows no fear of honesty in his music. Check out the new visuals below!

Crashing Down – OnCue + Video

This is one of the first songs I ever downloaded when I first started The Kollection. Crashing Down by OnCue has been in my library since it first came out, way back in 2010, yet somehow has slipped through the cracks to be shared here on the K. Time to change that.

Crashing Down is one of OnCue’s earlier works, and I love it. The instrumental is catchy, the vocals are passionate, and the lyrics are powerful. At first, I thought OnCue’s voice was a little off, but over time he’s grown on me, and now I love to hear his vocals pop up in my iTunes. They’re unique, and definitely stand out among the wave of upcoming college artists.

OnCue is one of the most passionate and talented upcoming artists right now, so I hope you will all support him and grab this throwback track below for free, and peep the video below. Enjoy.

legit song. great lyrics. but the man tries too hard in the video.

It Usually Goes – OnCue

OnCue‘s latest single “It Usually Goes” (produced by CJ Luzi) is a great example of effective indie sampling in hip-hop, integrating Eisley’s “Ambulance”, off her older Fire Kite EP. Although not featured on Cuey’s upcoming tape Can’t Wait, this track serves as a solid appetizer. Eisley’s eerie melody is the perfect backdrop to the tough, real lyrics delivered by Cuey’s strong rapping. A little heavy on the heart, but still an overall Kollection-worthy jam. Stay tuned for favorites from his mixtape.

“I ain’t a dumb white kid, this is real shit I’m livin’.
Father’s a crackhead, my brother’s an alcoholic.
I ain’t Asher, I ain’t Marshall, I’m a fuc*kin’ whatchucallit”.

Hasta La Vista – Fortune Family ft. OnCue

This Fortune Family and OnCue collabo came out a little bit ago, but slipped through the cracks here at the K. Hasta La Vista is a great new sound from the Family, and paired with a verse from Cuey, makes for an interesting and upbeat track. Take a listen below and kollect for free:

Throwback Thursday Episode Nine

The Town (Sabzi Remix) – Macklemore
Everyone loves Macklemore and this song only solidifies the fact that he has enormous talent. Sabzi swaps out some instrumentals in this remix. The remix makes the song catchier and it easily holds my attention, unlike some other Macklemore songs where the instrumentals seem to drag on. Macklemore has outstanding lyrics and lives up to all the hype.

She Likes My Music – OnCue
This song was released early before being on OnCue’s Leftovers mixtape. The mixtape is one everyone should get and is one you should take the time and really enjoy listening to. Listening to Leftovers is what made me a big fan of OnCue in the first place. This is one of his best songs and is certainly one you should listen to if you’re new to OnCue. Truly one of his best works.

Fancy Cars – Shwayze
Although this song is old it continues to be one of my favorite songs and hasn’t gotten old for me in the least bit. The slow Elvis Presley intro deters many listeners right off the bat but those who stick with it will find a song that is catchy, fun, and light hearted.

“Yeah, she was the apple of my eye, the cherry in my pie. My little crab cake loved to cry. She said she’s gonna move out to NY. I said why. she said to get fly. I said ok babe do your thing I’ll be right here when you’re back again.”

Only problem with this list, it’s missing mgk’s lace up at the 1 spot

    • By Brian December 27, 2010 at 8:54 am

Lace Up was definitely a fresh mixtape – one of many that couldn’t be included in this roundup, however!

  2. By Talk December 27, 2010 at 12:02 pm

you should get polls going to let all the kollectors decide too. solid list however i think that wale and chiddy should have been switched

    • By Brian December 27, 2010 at 3:55 pm

Good point Talk. It seems a bit late to add polls to the existing top 10, but we will look into starting polls in the new year!

  3. By Jstevens December 27, 2010 at 2:14 pm

where the fuck is chris webby on this list

    • By Brian December 27, 2010 at 3:56 pm

      Not on it :)

  4. By Edward December 27, 2010 at 3:28 pm

    I really don’t think no genre deserves the # 2 spot…

    • By Brian December 27, 2010 at 3:56 pm

Edward, what was your favorite tape of the year?

  5. By Patrick December 27, 2010 at 5:13 pm

    how is webby not here?

  6. By Nate December 27, 2010 at 5:44 pm

Webby definitely deserves to be on here. This is the very first time you’ve disappointed me kollection. Smh.

    8. MGK – Lace Up
    9. The Swelly Express – Chiddy Bang
    10. Sam Adams – Party Records

    • By Brian December 27, 2010 at 7:25 pm

I gotta say, I disagree with #10, but I like the rest of your list. Honestly, it’s tough picking a “Top 10″ when there were truly so many amazing tapes this year. Hell, Webby’s White Noise LP is among our top downloaded tapes of all time. This would be a good one to take to a vote, shall we?

  8. By Tello December 28, 2010 at 12:21 am

Kush & OJ is definately the best mixtape of 2010 hands downnn!!! and Finally Famous Volume 3 is right behind it!

  9. By Camel December 28, 2010 at 1:48 am

hey guys thanks for all the feedback. only kollectors are this passionate about music!!!

with regards to webby, I did overlook the white noise lp, which as brian said is one of our most downloaded mixtapes of all time. even though i personally don’t listen to chris webby that often, i have a lot of respect for what he’s doing and obviously he’s making great music if so many people are noticing his absence on this list.

as for kush & oj and best in the burbs, I tried to keep the list to mixtapes that the kollection has posted (a lot of people would say fabolous’ there’s no competition 2 was the best drop of the year but we didn’t post it). i’m glad you guys are keeping us honest, and it’s great to be able to share/discuss different artists with other people who know a thing or two about music. there was so much good music this year, ten spots didn’t do the artists justice.

hope you guys liked some of the others on the countdown, can’t wait to see what happens in 2011!

  10. By Nate December 28, 2010 at 3:23 pm

Well put Camel. Just keep bringin us the hits and we’ll stay happy.

  11. By Mike December 28, 2010 at 8:39 pm

To be and independent music blog you guys sure did who heavy on the mainstream names. I’ll agree that Mac Miller’s K.I.D.S. Tape was number one, but I’d argue for like Eddy B & Tim Gunter’s Dear North Carolina Welcome Back. If you’re talking mainstream I don’t know how you could leave off Chris Webby and Sam Adams; although generally known as ‘frat rap’ both were produced extremely well. Overall a good mix, but I’d look a little deeper when naming the best of the year. Keep up the good work…

this is a dope list, lot of different stuff than what i have been seeing around the net. Wanted to let yall know that I just compiled my site’s list of Top 10 free projects of 2010 as well and we got a couple overlaps but I also included some that y’all may have missed. Check out my list here:

Leftovers – OnCue Free Mixtape

I’ll be first to admit that I’ve really been slacking on my coverage of OnCue. Since his last feature on the K, he’s dropped two mixtapes, both of which have been absolutely amazing. It’s with great pleasure that I share with you guys his latest tape, Leftovers, which dropped this last week. The tape consists of 8 new tracks and 7 older, unreleased fan-favorites. With features from the likes of Sonny Shotz and sampling tracks from Sia and Michael Jackson, this mixtape is nothing short of brilliant.

Don’t miss this one, Kollectors. Download the entire tape below, or check out for samples.
